tow bar electric question powering fridge whilst driving

Post by sternal »

Currently have single electrics fitted was thinking today maybe I should fit the grey electric kit (12s) I won't be needing anything else on the plug apart from the fridge power (no battery in caravan )

Is it advisable to wire direct to the battery ? Id obviously need to disconnect if stop at services etc or is it better to wire so its ignition controlled ?

just trying to rack my brain as to what is ignition controlled in the engine bay ?!?!?

Advice gladly taken !

Wire to the battery via a (fused) split charge relay so it's only live when battery is charging.

I assume instead of wiring to leisure battery it would be for the feed for the fridge ?

from the alternator which is the no charge wire (colour) ??????

Yes that would work, switched by the wire from the alternator. Or even simpler but a bit more cash-

Fuse between battery and relay, size depends on fridge amps, maybe 20A?

That looks ok but be wary of using scotch locks, they can be unreliable.

It is handy having the permanently live pin 4 connected to the battery as a power source with a suitable plug and adapter for external things like air pumps, work lights etc.
