New leak on thermostat

Day off time to tinker. I recently replaced the temperature sender a ring and clip under the thermostat housing. This time the leak is coming from the red sender on the side. Can anyone tell me what it is do I can source a new one and its o ring and clip which appears to be metal. I ectionfound a thread on here which says its another temperature sender the link to a replacement has expired and I cant find it on Brickwerks. Can anyone point me in the right direction

I'd start with a new Oring
mine are black for temp gauge and blue for thermoswitch which of yours has failed is it deffo the sender?
I guess red is an aftermarket gauge sensor

is the housing a genuine VW one?

Thanks IF. Popped a new o ring in and cleaner the sensor. Got a new one from brikkies just in case and its called a coolant switch manifold heating. Not sure what that means but ordered one anyway

It means it's not a sensor or a sender it's a switch that turns off the manifold heater, choke heater and carb heater at 67deg.

Well I never saw one in red so I wonder if you ordered the right one.
They can be fitted in either location so where it is is no guide
They can be different colours if aftermarket so no guide either.

Best identification you have are wire colours, I'm not sure if plugs can be swapped but if your gauge is reading OK they must be on right.

the Temp guage sensor has yellow/red and brown wires

The thermoswitch for manufold heater has black and lilac/black wires

I'm beginning to wonder if its the right thing. The sensor in has is held in with a spring clip but also has a clip on its body

this is what my 88 van has as a manufold heater thermoswitch as seen in the pic below

Question is why change the switch for a leak which is probably down to a seal?
