YES, Maisie's alive ! I had a wee walk this afternoon and decided to have another shot at her. Almost used up a full can of easy start but then she fired into life. The old fuel rod gad been filed or ground down to clean all the crap off of it !!!

Re: Fuel Pump?
I done mine on Saturday afternoon, didn't fire straight up, probably because the fuel had run right back to the tank. Half a cup of fuel straight in the carbs and away she goes, running like a dream again used her all weekend and didn't miss a beat. I did buy the wrong pushrod though and had to get the right one from GSF luckily it was in stock.
Seems to be pulling a bit better now too through the gears now she's getting a bit more fuel. I'm yet to give her a blast down the motorway and see if there's much difference. There was a noticeable size difference in the rods, I think the one I took out measured 135mm instead of 139.8

Mines was supposed to be 100 mm ( actually 95mm) but I reckon the fitter in the local garage cleaned her off with a file, thinking he was doing me a favour getting rid of the case hardening.

Re: Fuel Pump?
I'm actually stuck with a 100mm one now as I bought the wrong one, totally my fault I didn't look properly and just ordered it thinking lovely only a fiver! So if anyone needs the 100mm pushrod give me a shout! The one I took out was well worn and burred at the edge and the hardened tip was completely gone. I didnt change the pump in the end though as I have the original VW unit on the van which was pumping well so didn't want to change it for a spurious one of unknown quality.

Re: Fuel Pump?
Hi all,
Been reading the fuel pump posts with interest as my 2l Aircooled decided not to start for the first time since I've had her last week. After reading the posts, I got underneath expecting to find a mech pump, but turns out it has already been converted to an elec pump. After searching the part number turns out I've got a Pierburg universal pump, bolted onto a bracket on the alternator. Cable runs to a relay and from there into he coil. Can't see any regulator. So couple of rudimentary questions....
1. Is the Pierburg system any good and should it have a regulator? Can't see what pressure the fuel is being pumped at, or whether it's adjustable. That said I've had it 10 years and it's never not started, so guess it can't be that bad.
2. With the ignition switched on, should I be able to hear it working, or does it only prime on turn over? Any other way to test it?
3. Pierburg's still seem to be available, so assuming best thing is to just replace with a new one.
There's another unit in between the relay and coil which is not being usedm anyone know what it might be?

Apologies for the simpleness of the questions, any advice gratefully received.
Thanks,
Peter
