The more strands there are for a given cable size increases the Amp carrying capacity.

I bought the hydraulic crimper that Bigherb linked to near the start of this thread. It's quite a bargain at under £21 delivered. I just tried it out on a bit of 35mm2 cable and I'm very impressed - the spec says 8 tons pressure, but it was totally effortless and gave a really neat crimp that's totally secure even before soldering. Now I can properly finish my starter replacement - the new starter's working a treat but I'd bought this cable in preparation so I may as well use it.
