Panelvan bulkhead removal.

Post by Bennythew »

I'm currently building a panelvan camper for climbing trips and bombing around Europe.

I've been looking at ways to increase interior space and couldn't bring myself to put a pop top on an uncut roof but I have thought converting the front bench seat to a walk though and captains chair setup would do the job.

So the question is...

How difficult is it to remove the half hight bulkhead that's fitted?

The vans getting its tdi swap done at the moment so I don't have it to look at.
As far as I remember the seat pedestals are independant and it should just be some spot welds? Do the walk throughs have any additional bracing?

I'd want it to come out in one piece and I'll be keeping everything I remove in case I want to return to stock.

Selling and buying something else isn't an option... This one is a keeper for me...

Spot welds and welded to B post aswell, well worth doing .No need to brace after removal, take out bench seat and fit another single seat and you have a walkthrough. Dont worry if it gets bent you wont be putting it back in, the van will be worth more without it.

i get a few that folk have done or bought done, .biggest problem i see is that they are a big agricultural with removal and end up grinding stuff away on the van and it gets thin, treat the bulkhead as sacrificial, it wont be going back in if you save it for 20 years.

I've been thinking of going the other way, as want to fit a double seat up front (for my Mrs & toddler) - quite like the look of the 1/2 bulkhead.

Don't want to lose the walk through, but if this is the sacrifice, I guess that's the compromise (unless I can get the double seat so it's got a fixed back instead of a bulkhead - it might even double up as a kids bed in future).
