Earth Crowns how do you get to them?

Post by Emma&Al »

Slightly embarrassed to ask this - but as the title suggests, how do you get to the Earth Crowns? What do they look like? I can see a bunch of wires at the back of the relay panel...is that them?
What am I looking for and do I have to dismantle everything to get there?

Thanks all

Undo the screws to the fuse box and let it down. There are earthing 'crowns' behind there. They are circular and have several tabs attached (the crown) They are attached to the body and have earth leads attached to them.

Thanks so much Ralf85! In order to inspect them or clean them, do I need to disconnect the battery first?

Always disconnect the battery before doing electrical stuff.

A few more pics may help, this is RHD late fusebox
need to bend the tabs of the glove box in so they come past the dash then the glovebox will drop down, you can then remove the fuse box single screw( shown under relay 21) and lift the fuse box off the cradle.

Put some vinegar in a glass. Add a few spoons of salt. Throw the crowns in. Mix it around for a while like 5 minutes or so. They should now come out shiny. Then do the same with a glass of baking soda and water to neutralise the acid in the vinegar.

Yes, disconnect the battery. I removed all the spades and soldered on new ones and gave the crown a shine with sand paper and a soak. Simple but time consuming.
