Fuel Expansion tank breather tubes - urgent question

Post by JonathanR »

Hi
Need the van on the road by lunchtime and am refitting petrol tank - so an urgent question
Have I think worked out where all the little pipes go although god only knows how you fit from above
I have two trumpet like rubber bits that appear at the end of the tubes from the top of breather tanks - see diagram
They do not seem to join up to anything - is that correct? Are the just vent outlets?
Many thanks

Oh and I remember reading on here somewhere that those two rubber trumpets are nicknamed Shrek's ears.

Just read the other thread - very useful thank you but alas too late as armed with the fact that "Shreks" ears were not connected to anything I pushed on regardless. However It will have to come out again as the grommets I got from JK were the wrong ones (should have checked so had to use the old ones) but in that bought the tank from them I made the assumption the extras would all fit. The fuel pipe was the large bore so that did not fit the little plastic pipes either but luckily had some smaller bore and so all is loosely push fit which is how it was when I dismantled except all the 10 and 15 cm hoses were perished. The ears I just gaffer taped the split and they will stay on a bit longer.
I also have a hole on the nearside b post that will need sorting so will come out for that work. I saw that corroded wire and did nothing
I agree with you the use of single length petrol pipe is a much better way to go and can be jubilee clipped as well - that was another JK cork up the clips were smaller than the pipe.
Daughter now on her way to a campsite with strict instructions to investigate if she smells petrol.
