Vid of alternator issues voltage drop
Here's a vid about my battery warning light staying on and temp warning light. shows voltage drop and such like. Seems to me like the alternator isnt charging?

Put a meter across the battery, you'll know then.

It is not charging. The voltage should be around 14.0 to 14.5 Volts. Check the D+ wire (orig. colour blue) if it has a break somewhere then the alternator voltage cannot build up.

Where is the D+ wire please? Is it the spade connector on the back middle of the alternator a thin wire? (Red and black on mine.

Looking at that picture the D+ wire is the smaller of the two in the plastic housing will have to chase that wire.

Update.
I've chased the wire and found nothing amiss. There was an exposed earth that I sorted and a nicked blue wire in the junction box? (black plastic box in left hand back of engine bay with connectors in).
So is it new alternator time? or can I get away with just new voltage regulator?

Voltage regulator relatively cheap. Certainly try that first. A spare is a good move anyway.

i've ordered one from jk for 12 quid so will give it a shot. It's weird as the battery light stays on after start up but goes when I give it some revs, almost like it is not self exciting? but checking the battery with the voltmeter after turning on accessories shows the voltage is not being maintained so I reckon a fresh regulator is a fair shout.CovKid wrote:Voltage regulator relatively cheap. Nah, mine does that (even with a new regulator). Very common. You just get used to blipping throttle to put light out.

Right well sounds like my alternator is toast as I was hoping a fresh regulator would sort my charging issue.
Will fit the fresh one anyway.

Hold on. I'm not sure your video establishes much other than it might be a lazy alternator. Are you saying that the ignition light goes out if you blip the throttle and have you tested across battery when it has? The low water indicator is probably unrelated,

The self exciting of the alternator is difficult with a lot of load on the D+ line (eg. Split charge relay or corroded connectors) do you have the split charge relay?
My newly refurbished alternator got self excited on idle, but have to rev up since I put the split charge relay back.
The crack in the blue line was the problem. It can be better if you clean and solder all of the connectors up to the dash and clean all of the earth points.
