My drivers side headlight is now tinted red (I'm assuming its rust or the silver has diminished). Its pretty much obvious and very distinguishable from the other light.
Will this be an MOT failure? I've read some posts a while back where someone was remedying this. I seem to remember they had trouble actually getting to the inside of the light? I can't find the thread.
Im booking an MOT soon - its not due until 2nd June, but I'm planning on doing a festival beforehand and I want to get it all sorted
This is caused by the reflector silver coming away from the rear of the reflector bowl, revealing rust underneath. It can cause MOT failure if it's bad, but it might not be fatal this time around, particularly if the rust/silver loss is at the bottom of the bowl. As long as the unit is still throwing a beam, you may get away with it, but you won't really know until it goes in for the test. I wouldn't draw the tester's attention to it - leave it to them to spot.
My post entitled "Fixing my square headlight" can be found in the Bodywork Seat and Glass section. You're going to have to replace it at some stage, but if the glass is okay, you may get away with what I did, and just replace the reflector bowl. It can be done, but be careful separating the two parts!

Thanks tforturton, that gives me a little more hope. As far as I can see, the red tint is at the bottom - fingers crossed. But yes, Id like to fix it soon even if it doesn't fail on that. Thanks for the link, ill have another look
