Good drill bit recommendations

Hi everyone, can anyone recommend somewhere I can buy decent drill bits? Been trying to drill out two of the small screws on the headlight bracket and the DeWalt drills I bought in screwfix are complete carp! Might be my technique or the original screws are incredibly hard.

You may find that those small self-tapping screws are indeed hardened, in which case it' a lost cause. Its very difficult to get enough cutting pressure and then the drill bit just skids instead of cutting.
Assuming that you arent using a 12000rpm pistol drill and burning the cutting edges off the drill bit.

None taken - just an 18V cordless. I'll try the dremel with a mini cutting disc.

Just grab hold of the screw head from the side with a pair of pliers or mole grips and turn it out.

Best thing is to use the drill bit from a holesaw arbour their very tough.

Bosch HSS-G bits. Ground edges. Very sharp, last a long time especially if you use an oil to keep them cool.
I bought the set of 20 and everytime I wear one out, I buy a pack of 10 replacements in that size - £5-10 a pack. Very useful if you-re drilling out spot welds etc.
I always buy from Abbey Hardware on eBay...

The best drill bits are Dormer (if you have the money), but Presto are also good for less money. Use HSS bits for mild steel, HSS-Co for stainless and hardened steel.

Cobalt material is the daddy. Be careful though, they shatter easily if you use too much force. Whenever drilling metal, slow speed and constant pressure.

Thanks for all the helpful replies as usual. Managed to get some HSS-CO bits today and a what an improvement. Steady drilling and eventually managed to get the heads of the two offenders. Light tap with a center punch and the shanks fell out. New lamp fitted -- cheers all.
