1.6 petrol t25 gutless
Hi fellas
Got my t25 up and running after New carb plugs dizzy fuel pump etc
Never driven it before after the elation of getting her going she seems to be absolutely guttles.
Theredoesnt seem to be much difference between third and fourth the accelerator is either not pressed at all or foot to the floor I drove her 50 miles on the motor way the other night with foot to the floor all the way crawling is this right?
If it is how it is any ideas about getting some more oomph apart from New bigger engine or tips on driving style
Thanks in advance guys

Possibly, what timing mark did you set the timing to?magloboy wrote:Cheers guys, shall check out the You tube when I get home, got the dizzy from cool air had to do a bit of wizardry ie taking out the electric start and the idle rev ojimmy, do you think this could be why the thing is gutless?

Don't know about timing mark had bloke fit it but it went breasticles up today had to get towed home
Guy said it needs a new set of points and a dizzy cap
Do you recon this is just bad luck or the messing with the dizzy.
If the later were can I get a recon old sissy from any ideas?

Almost certainly.Dorothy wrote: or the messing with the dizzy.
If it now has points then it is possibly an 009 distributor which has now been fitted which don't work well on these engines, and if the coil wasn't changed to the correct type for points ignition it will keep burning the points out. The timing also needs setting at 8 deg BTDC instead of the 5 deg ATDC when the original distributor is fitted.
Where is the original distributor?
Put some picture up of the distributor and coil we can work out what you have.

These are the pics that I have taken if you need some more let me know
cheers Mike
PS
Think the trouble is also crap in the petrol tank as the filter look filthy and its new so this might help with the breaking down but still want to sort out the performance cheers

Re: 1.6 petrol t25 gutless
Well it better news, it is a SVDA distributor which is better than an 009 distributor but having points is a retrograde step, electronic ignition is much better.
The coil is wrong unless it has been fitted with a ballast resistor which I can't see one in the photos that would explain the points burning out.
That type of distributor should have the timing set to 8 deg BTDC (before top dead centre) not 5 deg ATDC (after top dead centre) like the original distributor.
The fuel filter is in the wrong position it should be before the petrol pump (the petrol pump needs clean fuel as well) ideally in the correct position just behind the fuel tank.
What was the reason you changed the distributor and carburetor?
And a better picture of the left side if the carburetor I can't see if the vacuum pipes are connected correctly.

Hi bigherb,
More pictures attached, hope they help. Can we re-instate the electronic ignition with this distributor? The guy that fitted it removed the electronic ignition as it was the only way he could get it to work?!
We replaced the carb first as there was definitely a fuel problem, fuel pump was working, blowing through the jets helped temporarily, we took the carb off and cleaned it and the adjustment screw on the side was damaged (sheared off), we replaced the gaskets and still couldn't get it running hence replaced it. The van was then running well in the driveway until suddenly it cut out and for the first time ever, no spark!
Replaced the plugs, checked the earths, the coil was new so our mechanic guy suggested the new distributor, hence that change. We still have the old coil so we'll definitely replace that or maybe we can get a separate ballast resistor? I can ring around tomorrow.
Re fuel filter, that's an extra because of the trouble we had with the previous carb. The van had been stood in a driveway for 3 years before we got her so we assumed there was loads of rust or sediment in the tank. We've drained her down twice and replaced fuel filter twice near the tank and then put the extra in by the carb as belt and braces really. New tank on the list at some point!
Thanks for your help, it's really appreciated.

Re: 1.6 petrol t25 gutless
Fuel filters in the engine bay scare the hell out of me.
When were the fuel lines changed?
I have to agree that returning to a far superior electronic ignition is the first step.

Re: 1.6 petrol t25 gutless
The original coil if it was the correct one will not work with points ignition it will be even worse, you will need a Bosch blue coil not the Bosch red you have fitted.
The vac pipes look to be wrong, really needed a picture looking at the left side of the carb.
But this white one should be on the port on the front of of the carburettor and then the black one to the distributor connected in it's place. Then have the timing reset to 8 deg BTDC (the black vac pipe needs to be disconnected when you are resetting the timing).

Thanks for that guys I will get some photos up when I get home this eve,and shall order up the Bosh blue this eve
About the electronic ignition can it be done with this Dissy?
As I have the idle unit which cost me £130 quid so if its just a mater of replacing some bits we will do it
Or would we be better off with new distributor (and if so what one and were from)
Cheers lads
Thanks for all your comments I would be totally goosed with out it cheers
