Westy water tank filler...

Post by max and caddy »

Hi, I have a westy water tank with a spigot sticking out for the filler hose...I recently bought a length of the hose brickwerks supply and was expecting the "thread" to match the one on the tank...is doesn't..and it leaks...also I have tried using silicone pipe on this and it still leaks...what's the answer? I could use silicone sealant but rather not...or do I need a wider clamp maybe..I'm using a normall jubilee clip at the moment..

Maybe I have just found out the reason Westys normally have no sill left on the tank side?

I'm not aware of issues in sealing to the tank but perhaps 5 or more turns of PTFE tape would do the trick....as for why the sill and seams go on that side, I'm pretty sure its the condensation caused by the heat from the fridge flame.

Ok...thanks...but...when I mentioned the thread it's more like worm drive ...and the "thread" on the hose is the wrong way in fact..but the inside of the hose quite smooth anyway ( it's pond hose) ...I'm a puzzled as yo why westy even bothered with the thread at all on the tank...it seems counter productive..

I've had the hose off mine a couple of times (filler side) from memory it has a reinforced wire which is moulded in to the hose and results in a spiral thread like internal structure. I'm pretty sure that it serves no other purpose than preventing the hose from collapsing. I'm reckon you could buy a suitable hose from somewhere else, I know here in Nottingham, Tennant Plastics sell every conceivable type and grade, there are bound to be other suppliers doing the same.
The expensive option, although I've not looked but Gunzl is the main man when it comes to all things westy, he is likely to have the exact stuff.

Turns out I have gunzl hose...via brickwerks...everybody is puzzled by this at the moment it seems...looks like a load of silicone sealer is going on with the pipe to fill in the pointless screw thread...the pipe is actually threaded LH and the tank RH..not that it really matters as the hose is smooth inside anyway...

Why would there be thread on the spigot? Usually they are just barbs on water hose fittings. If they are barbs it sounds like the hose ID is too large (possibly the OD of the spigot was measured on top of the barbs instead of in the valleys).
