Should there be more fuel in the filter than this?
Hi everyone. I've been having trouble getting my T25 started and running well. Having checked the fuel line I found there was no fuel in the filter. I put some fuel in (it was low and had been sat on a forward slope), sucked the petrol through and fitted everything back. I managed to get it started but it wouldn't idle - it has been sat for over six months so this isn't a surprise, however, should there be more fuel and less air in the filter than this?

That type of filter should ideally be mounted vertically to allow them to fill and vent air. When I use the smaller version on my heaters I prefill them so that there is no air in at all.
Also - throw away those horrible clips and use the proper and correct sized hose clips. (That clip on the left looks like it is clamping nothing!)

vertically??? Good lord. Do you put it vertically there? Or use a different type of filter??
Ours are horizontal just like that.... (maybe better clips though)

It's fine fitted horizontally, they all are as standard, and the air will cause no problems, but as said - do change those clips for proper fuel hose clips.

Not sure oldie meant that particular one Em,as i can't see how you could mount it vertically.

Here is the instruction for the Webasto ones which are basically the same. At least get an upward slope to it, not downward.

This is the fuel running through mine, seems to be OK horizontal:

Re: Should there be more fuel in the filter than this?
That certainly could do with letting some air out though!

Don't worry about the air in the filter that is how they run in thousands of cars it doesn't make any difference, just sort those clips out.

The air doesn't matter. It can't be any other way if you think about how it operates. Anyway, even if you do manage to get it out, it will only do it again if / when you run out of fuel.
Yep change those clips, every motor shop sells proper fuel pipe clips, usually on those rotating display stands full of bits n pieces
Then tie it up a bit, like the one in jamesakers picture above

Jamesakers. You could do with pushing your hose onto the outlet of your filter a bit further.

Re: Should there be more fuel in the filter than this?
His is correct the filters have dual sized connections 6mm outer 8mm inner so the 8mm inlet goes all the way up to the filter on the inner spigot and the 6mm outlet only goes on the outer spigot.R0B wrote:Jamesakers. You could do with pushing your hose onto the outlet of your filter a bit further.

The air is very easy to get out - just hold the open outlet vertically so that the air is at the top and with the top below the fuel level it will fill and expel the air, then quickly replace hose. (I would still prefer to use all of the filter rather than just the bottom portion).
