Hi there
Bought my 81 Aircooled 2 litre about a year ago .Had a 009 dizzy no vacum .ran ok
Had a compression test about a year ago no 3 cylinder was alot lower then the rest
Van ran ok lacked a bit of grunt
Anyway i was advised to fit the original dizzy with vacum had this done and seems to run even worse .
Had the 009 put back and i think now no 3 cylinder is dead
So it seems everyone has there own view on which dizzy is best .
Going to have new motor built but my mechanic keeps saying that the vacum is rubbish .
Well i need some good advice
Thanks Simon

Re: Running on 3 cylinders Aircooled
VW and most vehicle manufactures fitted vac distributors for a reason. It always worries me when someone says vac distributors are rubbish, clearly no understanding on how they work, if it is the same person who fitted the distributor then it might be questionable if it was fitted and timed up correctly? Was it an original distributor or a replacement type and what carbs are fitted? Either way it won't cause a loss of compression on one cylinder.
