mirror

Hi How do you get the swivel base of the wing mirror.
Taken the m6 nut off so does it just knock apart by hitting the stud.

Hi
Thanks for the reply. Got the old floppy mirror problem. Going to take it apart and try sandwiching thin rubber between ball and socket to see if this works.
Tried soaking it in a solution of red bull and Viagra but it was too stiff :D

the problem you have is the shaft is seized inside the half ball so you need this to slide freely to tension up , so how will you get "rubber"? between the ball and cup if you cant get it off

Thanks Metalmick
Got it apart ok and can see how it works. Might try putting rubber washer between cup and socket to provide extra friction but as you said it would not get tension if seized . I see other members have sanded ball and added grease with sand to increase grip but this seems a bit messy.
Any other suggestions appreciated.

No mess involved. ( This is my invention!) Only need a thin coating of grease to enable the sand to stick to it, if you use too coarse a grade of sand it can make it difficult to adjust. I did mine 14 years ago or so and they have never moved since. Avoids the scenario of continually tightening the spring which can lead to breaking of the shaft if you are heavy handed.

HI
I have to fold them in every time I take camper in and out of garage so sand may be too aggressive.
Will try if rubber does not work.
