Got the van recovered to a local mechanic.
He has redone a compression test and confirmed that there is no compression in one of the cylinders.
Next step is to take the head off to see what the problem is.

Re: Fuel Issue?
No compression on the same cylinder as the one on which you swapped a pushrod tube?
If so the pushrod isnt seated in the tappet/cam follower and its holding a valve open.
Easily corrected, no need to lift the head.
Use a small LED torch to look down the tube and make sure than the pushrod is in the middle of the tappet piston.

Re: Fuel Issue?
Hello all,
Just thought I would log another update.
The mechanic did check the pushrods - but they looked ok. Hes taken the head off and the valve is fouled up. Its a friend of a friends garage , who is doing it when he has some spare time. Am hopeful the final bill will reflect this.
Just a question that I hope you guys cab help with - with the engine dropped and head off what should I ask the guys to check / replace?
Clutch seems an like one? Water pump another perhaps?

"The valve is all fouled up"
what's that mean then?
I would be wanting to know if the valve is burnt out and why!
