Rust/Welding Advise & help

Post by crazymilk »

I have found some nasty rust that needs dealing with however it is in an awkward place and I am not sure how to tackle it.

I will take some pictures and post up later to show however it is in the corner righ behind the petrol filler tube (inside near the fuel vapour tank).

I found this picture one line to help show where I mean however this picture shows the opposite side without the fuel filler pipes/outer wing. My van is also fully together so of course I have the outer wing panel there all sprayed up and looking good.

So what are my best options, I am assuming you cannot buy a replacment panel so will have to make one up.
Also as I have the outer wing fitted it is going to be difficult to do without burning the outside of the good paintwork

You really have to remove the arch to get to the b post. There will be rust in between them.

If the arch is not rotten it is possible to remove a section and put it back....I did it recently and challenge anyone to spot the join!

as^^^^^ its std practice to cut the rear of the arch of,repair the B post then make a new lip for the arch and replace, doing it with arch fitted is a patchwork bodge in most cases, and if your running petrol then tank out , well i take them out but each to their own

ahh wasnt in the achive yet.see here someplace
https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=100930" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
most vans ive done that havent had new fr arches ive done this way, but now very good pattern fronts are available i woul;d only do it if the van needed to retain as much OE metal as posible
i haveny got time to trawl through them but this has it done and a few others that are in the archive

the top picky is roughly how it goes, very shiny and does the job though not sure why they only did part of it,thew way they did but........................
nah i only do those to vans im doing, schofields do the repro arches that are very very good and most also do the lower b post repair panel, though you still have to make good all around it

Thanks guys, have found both sides to be the same and looking at it I am not too confident in tackling this job and it coming out OK.

Might have to leave this one to the pros.
