Evening all
I'm currently sanding down an oak offcut to use as a mantel piece above our fire place
Any suggestions for what to use to treat the sanded oak to protect it/make it shiny etc??
Cheers
Dave

Re: Treating oak
Most of my work is with English/European Oak,used to use boiled linseed oil changed to Blackfriers Danish oil years ago,I really recommend it.

I Make stuff like long 1:1 scale thin stemmed wine glasses and similar from various timbers generating the software for down to 1 mm thin sections for my home converted CNC lathe. I use Beeswax applied with brush and a hot air gun. I probably wouldn't advise it for you job but I can achieve some nice effects by darkening different areas and the burned in beeswax prevents distortion over time
