Syncro mirror & door "holes"

Post by revchuck »

Hi guys. I have trawled through the Archive looking for help, and while there are threads about the issue, there are none which give a solution. So here's the issue:
I have managed to pick up a couple of syncro mirror arms for my non syncro van. And as others have found out, the holes in the doors do not match up with the holes on the brackets at bottom of the arms.
Here's the question, some of you have been through this experience already, I'd really appreciate if you were able to share some of that - or point me in the direction of the Archive where I might find it, please.
Many thanks in advance.... :ok

Well your a third if the way there..... Fit mirror using the 2 existing holes and tape gasket to top mount ,position it and drill one top hole secure it then drill remainder ,fitting the gasket first helps align the holes,
Then drill straight through lower bottom and secure using an m6 csk screw and a nyloc nut to the rear ,(obviously) door card off for this ,don't be tempted to avoid thus last stage

If they don't fit the original two holes on the door, they are LT and not T3 Syncro.

What were they sold/advertised as?

Thanks for the replies Metalmick8y and Elvis.
I was told they would fit a T25, and I guess they will with new holes drilled. Assuming I cannot replace the bottom bracket with appropriate distanced holes.

The LT bracket holes can be slotted to allow the base to bolt to a T3 door ( don't drill the door...it's a bad move) or..as a better solution change the bracket for a proper T3 one...while your at it trim a bit (about 3/4 " from memory) of the tube and re drill the hole for the pin and the top mount will be in right spot...also the top gasket is a spacer on the T3 but it is available as a fitting kit...what did you pay for the mirrors and have they ever been on a T3?

Thanks mm8 and max and caddy - appreciate the comments.

I paid about £50, they need cleaning and refurbishment, which I don't mind doing. Yes, I was told that they would fit a T25, and an LT.

max and caddy, thanks for the advice of not drilling doors, and for looking at finding appropriate bottom brackets. I think I might have found what I need on a German website: Bernd Jager's VW T3 shop - SKU Bu 0012 and 0013.

Thanks for your help. :ok
