JAC CamperBeds

Post by LeeCarey »

Hi All, I'm looking to replace my flimsy rock n roll bed in the T25 and have been searching around numerous companies for crash tested and integrated seat belts. I've spoken to JAC and they can provide seats with belts and integrated isofix for a pretty reasonable price. The frames are crash tested so seem a good standard.

Wondered if anyone has used them, pics etc and the ease of installation. Looking to use 2 baby seats in the back so needs to be pretty secure and solid.

Thanks in advance

This question gets asked all the time, so it might be worth searching back through the 'camper' threads, or even 'bodywork, seats and glass', to see what other people have come up with. That said, those seats do look pretty well made, and providing they're fixed securely, they should do the job. It's not clear what sort of bus you have - if it was built as a caravelle or camper, then it should have reinforced seat fixing points as standard. If not, you'll have to make and reinforce your own - or get the seat suppliers to do it.

Caravelle seat can be modified to make good strong rock n roll bed , use later style mechanism, still available new from vw classics.

Its not that easy to get it as good as the factory rock n roll ime. I went though this exercise years ago. Lots of fabrication and you will still need the correct side catches to make it safe, then making the cover fit (the headrests have different spacing too) in which case you would be better off hunting down a real one! Which I then did btw.
They are out there.

What do you mean when you say headrest spacing is different.

Rock and roll seats (caravelle or multivan) have the individual seating positions slightly closer together. Same headrests, different spacing, when compared to the fixed bench seat.

Not when going from 3-seat Multivan to Caravelle. More like 50mm.

Of course multivan headrest spacings are smaller the whole width of the seat is not as wide as full width rock n roll. Three people have to sit in a slightly narrower space. Its 260mm for the multivan. The full width rock n roll headrests are 290mm and the caravelle fixed seat is 295mm. When the caravelle fixed seat gets converted, its to a full width rock n roll bed. I have vw full width bed in a caravelle and i used this to get exact measurements and also see how the basic seat base frame gets strengthened at the factory. How many people have removed and got rid of their vw caravelle or minibus rear 3 seater and then bought some rock n roll hinges and plywood and tried to make their own. Im not a metal working expert, i cant weld but can measure and cut whats necessary to make it work. I used a caravelle gl seat but a more basic minibus/caravelle seat would be easier to convert.
