I recently bought a mk2 golf digital clock to replace my knackered clock in my 89 westy the new clock has 2 short wires coming off it my old one hasnt other than that it looks identical does anyone know how to fit it i believe its been done before thanks.

I'm looking to do this myself....It will have a feed and earth for the LCD panel but also for the illumination (back light), so I'm guessing thats what they are.

Not sure if that helps any.

Well if its got two wires thats obviously the power input. The question is, is it 12v or does it go through some kind of dropper circuit on the golf. I guess the wiring diagram would tell you.

As an aside I've had (got) various LCD and LED clocks in the van and having lived with them, by far the most reliable and easy to set is the cheap one I got from local pound shop with an AA battery and hands. It just sits on the dash with two-sided tape. Not exactly integrated or particularly attractive but its accurate and a whole lot less faff.

when I did this job I stripped the actual lcd panel from the golf mounting plate and electronics and fitted the panel into the T3 equivilent; the neoprene contacts aren't handed that was a worry but they are simple assemblies in fact; same applies to using one out of an audi (black with white digits) just strip it down and swap over the working panel for the duffer
