1985 T25 1.9DG carburettor refurbishment

I do appologise if what I im after is on the site, however I have tried searching through and not come across it. I was looking at getting a weber convertion, either single or twin for a pulling away issue that has come down to a carb issue. I have heard that these conversions can be more hassle than there worth and better to get original carbs reconditioned. Can anyone recommend a company that do this or have ones done that you can buy.

Bromyard VW recondition the pierburg 2e3 to the best standard you will find.
there is another lower cost refurb I will have a look for the link.

Webbers are generally rated but a few on here have them.

300CE has a webber which he reports works well, hopefully he will see this post, if not E D I T the title to mention Weber and he will tune in

Need some modifications for a webber, they don't just bolt on, recon of Pierburg is the lowest cost easiest option.

...like a severe flat spot when you pull away from rest? That's more than likely a problem with the accelerator pump. I adjusted mine to solve this issue, but I also discovered that the accelerator pump diaphragm is the key to this problem. A new and correct diaphragm required over 2kg of force to move the spring, whereas the spring in my old faulty one was so weak it only needed about 300g.

Get yourself a refurb kit from Brickwerks and even if you don't use any other parts from it, replace the accelerator pump diaphragm - you can do this in situ. Proper adjustment of the amount of fuel pumped needs the carb to be removed and the two halves separated however.

Thats worth a look. When I go to pull away theres like a dip in power where it would stall if you did not push the clutch down to get some more revs. Once moving it moves fine. If I had to stop on an incline and get going, would be interesting. Seems to get worse when the engine is warmer.

Yep, that's how bad my test carb was before I adjusted it. Now it's perfect. With hindsight I'm pretty sure it was just that diaphragm, which was really weak and was pumping too little fuel. You can buy just the diaphragm, but take care. The weak one that I had to replace wasn't very old and had never been used, so I reckon it was just a poor quality part. The proper kit from Brickwerks seems to include a good quality version of this diaphragm.

As itchy says, I have a 34 DAT Weber running on mine and its a great little carb and (touch wood) haven't had any problems with it. I've always been impressed with how well it pulls, but I haven't had the pleasure of having a Pierburg so can't comment on the difference between the two.

They are few and far between now, however, there is one currently on eBay which is slightly different set up to mine but he wants a pretty penny for it although does come complete with manifold & says only been used for a limited time:

My personal opinion for the cost involved is to try CJH's option to change the diaphragm as this could be a cheap fix that resolves your issue.
