External Swirl pot

Post by kevtherev »

Very soon I'll be moving to an injection engine away from my beloved Pierburg.
Rather than change the fuel tank from a carburettor to an injection type, I would like to fit an external swirl pot, has anyone had any experience of this?
I think my Scirocco 1.8i has one, I'd like to fit something easy and not costing the earth.

ELVIS did explain something about this but in my excitement, I missed the details. :D

Not VW, but about 10 years ago I converted my Favorit rally car to injection, and it needed a swirl pot (as I didn't want to fit a tank-mounted pump, etc). Made one up easily from a fairly standard metal container with some pipe fittings from the local pipe/thread factors, with suitable fittings to allow it to fill with fuel, with a return to the tank (as per the original setup which was already present), and then the feed and return to/from the high pressure pump as well. Worked absolutely fine, although the plumbing was a bit cumbersome; never had a problem with fuel supply or air getting in it.

Do you not have one already? I'd -guess- a mechanical one would do the job if you have one already, it's just keeping the swirl pot full, after all. (mine was electric, a facet one much like MGP has pictured).

I have a mechanical pump, on the old engine sure, but I'd like to simplify the pipework, so I think an electric one would be preferable.
