Back plate, brake shoes, springs tips
I've had my back wheel hubs soaking in plus gas the last few days and hopefully tomorrow is the day I get chance to sort out the rear brakes. Backplates are rusted through and have all the springs and bits to renew.
Any tips or links to videos to aid me.
Looking forward to having a good ole bodging day, been studying and applying for a new job the last few weeks, need a distraction

Re: Back plate, brake shoes, springs tips
Sorry, I have the back plates too and the stubby pin that has to be punched out.
Hoping the cylinders are okay and fluid lines. Seen a couple of videos now and it all kinda makes sense.
Another squirt of plus gas and have a useful length of scaffolding handy.
Off work Tuesday too so lets see what other hidden jobs this throws up

Re: Back plate, brake shoes, springs tips
Yeah, I had them left over too...
Scratched my head, put the drum on, and put the clips in a box in the garage, went on holiday with the van and all was good (well all was good with the brakes anyway!). I've still got them in a box in the garage, but we've moved house so I doubt if I can remember which box they are in...
Satisfying job though, no?

Re: Back plate, brake shoes, springs tips
They are the horseshoe clips that hold the handbrake arm onto the brake shoe. On bay window vans the arm did not come with the brake shoes you had to swap it over from the old shoes and fit a new horseshoe clip to the pivot pin.
And the bottom spring should be fitted from behind the shoes with the long curly hook end on the handbrake lever side.

Never seen those clips for the handbrake lever on the brake shoes , the lever is riveted on.

Well if anyone has any tips on fitting parts 2a,2b and 2c, those little monkeys took all the time.

2 second job - finger on the pin at the back, hold disc in pliers, push on and twist. Why were you having difficulty?

Re: Back plate, brake shoes, springs tips
Also looking back at your pics - have you kept a leaking cylinder but renewed everything else?????. And.... looks like the wrong spring at the bottom.
