That is why so many people's transmissions pass through Aidan Talbot's hands!
Without a full set of tools and plenty of experience its just not possible to do anything more than a "Desert Rat" repair, at best.

If I had the spare cash for the tools. I'd have the cash for a recon gearbox but I don't however, many good things are thrown away when not really required. One man's junk is another's treasure. So they say. I'm happier saving my pennies and repairing what I can, no matter how finicky, otherwise I'd buy a brand new van and drive all over Europe tomorrow. Lol

Sorry Kat I didnt mean to be disingenuous! I appreciate your dialemma, necessity is the mother of invention and all that.
My Dad once had someone bring him a part-dismantled VW 5-speed (when I was still into British cars, 20 years ago) with what I now know to be a broken synchro hub. He has stopped going on about how expensive the genuine parts were and how difficult it was to reassemble without the correct tools... and no manual or internet either!

Oh dear, look what I found on wiki...
I'd also recommend that you fit a new spigot bearing when doing an engine change or a clutch swap it's the best £8 you can spend, if you have to pull the box and pay a garage to do it figure on minimum £100 labour plus whatever it costs to fix whatever is damaged

Shame. Wish I had seen that before hand.

Dad's always know best...experience has taught him well.
