Seperate fuse for windscreen wiper and washer?

Post by TMRAVEN »

Hi there,
I have a 1.6l 1990 Turbo Diesel T25 and am having issues with my front windscreen washer. The wipers are working, but the water won't come out. I know the water bottle is full, but there is no pump sound when trying to operate washer. Do the wipers and washer pump work off the same fuse? If not can anyone tell me which fuse I need to change to check it isn't a blown one stopping it operating?
Sorry, I do have a wiring diagram but that isn't helping me as I am rubbish at reading them :-(

If the wipers work when you operate the wash/wipe then the fuse is ok.
Have you cleaned the pump electrical connectors?
Have you cleaned the earth connector next to the relay plate (earth crown)

Hey Kev,
Thanks for your reply...I must have forgotten to subscribe to this post as I got no notification when you replied.
Yes, the wipers work so the fuse must be ok as you say (shame as I was hoping for a quick fix).
I haven't done either of the cleaning jobs you mentioned, I am a real novice and wouldn't know without searching through the manual/internet where either of this connectors are. So I guess now is the time to learn *heads of to find out where the bits that need cleaning are*

The problem has been sorted now, I took it to someone who knows a lot more than me and it turns out that someone in the past had been too rough when using the wiper control stalk and broken (at the base where it couldn't be seen until the steering column(?) cover was removed). They had tried holding it together with an elastic band which had over time perished...so one replacement stalk on and I now have fully functioning washer and wipers. :)
