JK/klokkers panels.

Purchased some klokkers panels from JK and they arrived today. I have a couple of questions.

The panels look to be of reasonable quality, although I'm surprised to see that there are quite a few little dings in the steel, fortunately close to the edges. These will obviously need filling before painting, is this normal?

Is there any prep work I should do with the panel before firing it to the van or can all the work be done before the inevitable re spray?

I think it is somewhat normal.
I went into vw heritage to buy a full rear klokkerholm panel and it had a few dinks and scrapes.
When looked at it 'a bit disappointed like' etc in the shop, the sales guy said he had rummaged through their stock and this was the best one they had!
Conversely, I bought a 'top quality' arch panel from schofields and it was just that... Mint.

You get what you pay for.

Does your schofields panel have the inner arch flange ready to attach to the same point as the original? (this is also where the upper and lower halves of the original panel were joined).

I was disappointed to find that the Klokkers ones don't have this. Means much more fabrication to make it fit and I'd prefer to fit one which doesn't need me to try and weld through a visible painted face.

There are a couple of pics on their website, one which shows how the top egde returns. The front edge of the arch also includes the outer most section of the inner arch 'lining'. Difficult to explain in words. Got to admit I cut most of the inner flangework off and welded the new panel to the remnants of the existing rotfree panelwork. If you try to do it all 'as per factory', you open up a whole can of worms and it is difficult to draw a line of where to stop! My van is never going to be concours!
Glad I used the proper panel though as the fit was excellent and it gave me the opportunity to cut exalctly what I needed.

Anyone need an unused right hand klokkers full height panel?

for tall rear arches its klokkerts or nowt better .... they all have a few creases as this is in manufacture and they are identical in so far as ive fitted dozens and yes some are worse than others.the good rear arches are very good and nicely defined, if fitting these and the old inners are good and the original wing is ok then there is a way we slip them in to retain the tight seam, in answer to your question, no the pattern as in klockers arch panal is just that a pattern outer skin , you can add a lip to this or bond it ,as to wether you wish to open a can of worms depends on wether you want to repair it correctly or just make it look pretty

Here you go Dave, the difference between quality Scoffield panels and other "pooh", note that one is an offside the other a nearside

err. at least show the correct respective parts, ones an arch the other is a short side panal. though agree the latter is crap ,l though it makes no odds as there are no oe or oe spec upper wings
oh and the "quality "one is only supplied by schofields amongst a few other suppliers,
the cheapo klockers and such will do the job if you are really desperate but why bother when the better item is only a toutch more expensive

Ohh I'm sorry who annoyed you today, but these are the only panels I had to show the difference in quality between the two manufacturers of replacement panels that the original poster was asking about

At least I made the effort to photograph and post the results, no one else including you bothered

No i didnt post the picks as like you i didnt have a "pair of arches" to possibly show the difference so didnt see the need to confuse folk not conversant who may from those believe that only schofields supplied the arch and the short wing was the alternative from elsewhere,
