Some advice needed please......

Post by Izzi »

hi all, couple of questions...

1) I have an '86 t25 hardtop. On the LHS rear corner, about 300mm in length, the side of the roof has delaminated, which causes me to believe that the original sealant has given way. Can anyone advise on how to go about repairing the section? I want to catch it before it gets worse. Also, does anyone have any general advice about re-sealing the roof?

2) Is there a recommended rust converter that I can use on the undercarriage?

I've just ordered NEUTRARUST from eBay - developed for use on the North Sea rigs it came recommended from a vehicle restoration specialist (and forum member). Failing that VACTAN is good.

Just what exactly are you intending to do?
I ask this as I have no idea what other than the gloop holds the top on. I guess these tops were fitted well before todays high strength adhesives were developed and I sometime wonder...

Getting your wires crossed mate! I'm talking about rust proofing my vans undercarriage with the NEUTRARUST I've just ordered. Still seeking advice about the roof before I attempt any repairs. :D

Hi-Roof delamination

Post by Izzi »

Hi all...

Still looking for any advice on this please....

The left hand side of my hi-roof is delaminating, about a meter at the front and meter at the back. Just checked it and it's a little worse than I originally thought. Has anyone had a similar problem and dealt with it successfully? I'm going to try get hold of a restoration company for advice, but thought I'd ask here anyway. ..

I think we need photos ... are you saying a fibreglass hightop is parting company from the steel roof or a fibreglass roof is splitting ?

Ian

I mean that the fibreglass hightop is parting company from the steel roof. The fibreglass roof itself is intact.

Clean all the areas you can as much as possible, blow it out with an airline or airduster and glue it back down with Sikaflex.

How do I get to the area to clean it as the roof sits right in the gutter?
