sump drain plug ????

Hi,servicing the van this weekend,I'm confused as to which is the oil sump drain plug.there's a plug with 13mm hex head at the back of the sump(looking straight in at the rear) & also a plug on the near side.towards the front of the sump.which is the drain plug please? cant find a pic on wiki.Oh its a 1.6d n/a,

It's the 13mm headed one at the back.

Thanks for the advice... all went well,plug came out no bother as did the gearbox plugs.oils & filters changed & running as sweet as a nut

.
2 weeks & i'm out on the road,all new trim inside.new carpets , new LED lights & electric system,just got to save a bit money then get the seats & bed re-covered.cant wait to get away in her,

Just a quick note. I used to get the odd drip of oil getting past the oil plug even though the surfaces on both sides were clean. Must have been moving through the coil somehow.

So I used a little square of resistant flat rubber and squashed the plug against it to make a clean seal. Stopped it entirely without over tightening. Bit fiddly, but worked for me.

Did you use a copper washer?
They should be replaced every time, though most folk seem to get away with reusing for a year or two.

The diesel sump plug doesn't have a copper washer. It relies on a metal to metal seal between the tapered end of the steel plug and the alloy sump. They do drip, and get overtightened as a result. I use a smear of silicone sealant to avoid having to overtighten it. The silicone generally comes out with bthe plug or the oil next time!

OK,

I did wonder if these strange oil burning lumps that dont need spark plugs and tens of thousands of volts whizzing around used other some magical way of keeping the lubricating oil where it should be.
Obviously the magic is wearing off.
