Power dips when turn lights on

Post by crazymilk »

Is it normal that when you switch the headlights on there is a momentarily big dip in the rest of the electrics power?

I know there will be some minor dip but you can really hear the fuel pump power momentarily dip along with the lights on the dials (after market rev counter, oil pressure and engine temp).
I am running an EJ25 conversion btw.

Don't know about Scooby alternators / regulators, but I am going to say it's normal. Just put a meter on the battery, and measure the voltage with and without headlights on. There should be less than 1/2 a Volt difference. If it's more, then, as Ralph indicates, either wiring (or alternator) is not up to the job.
