Are water cooled and air cooled drive shafts same?

Big lumps of metals and spanners. Including servicing and fluids.

Are water cooled and air cooled drive shafts same?

Post by richie-b »

Reason for asking, is that I have a water-cooled box on a cu engine which works well. Keep getting knocking on cornering, but new cv joints. Grabbing shafts and moving side to side they knock against the wheel end which I presume will be the hub.
Up down movement is negligible.

Aircooled are longer. Worn wheel bearings also cause knocking.

Thanks bigherb. Looks like I will have to look out for some secondhand w/c shafts then. Defo not wheel bearings, one of the first things I checked.

It is the engine that makes the difference. Aircooled are engines are longer so the gearbox is mounted further forward which requires longer drive shafts.
