temp gauge error
Hi all
I have a temp gauge that is reading to high, have checked engine temp at normal but gauge is far off to the right.
The second stage fan kicks in at almost the far right hand white marker.
Is there anyway to adjust the gauge ?
Thanks

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
No everything else seems fine been struggling with supposed overheating for the last year or so
Everything checked or replaced so eventually bit the bullet and took to garage all working as should be just gauge reading very high when engine /water normal!!
Thanks for the reply.

Re: temp gauge error
The first stage kicks in at around top of 3/4 on the gauge second stage kicks in at top of gauge
the stat does not even open until gauge is at half to 3/4
I was wondering if there was some sort of bi metallic strip or similar I could adjust on the gauge to give a true reading or somewhere near?
Thanks

Re: temp gauge error
as a rule the radfan first stage should cut in at 3/4 hot , but the rad fan is not controlled by the temp gauge, nor its sender, it is independant and is soley controlled by the switch in the radiator, so it will cut in at same temp at the rad regaurdless of what the gauge is reading .....
things to check
the plug that plugs into the temp sender ( which is the one that faces the front of the van NOT the one facing the wheel, which is infact a switch not a temp sender) if it is dirty and or corroded it will be high resistance and affect the reading of the gauge
the wire isnt damaged along its length
the connectors further along the loom for corrosion
i would try a known good temp sender if possible first though, you may have the wrong one

Re: temp gauge error
Thanks Steve,
That would make sense as its the only switch that I have not changed!
I will take a nose at the weekend, Don't suppose you know what make/ colour is the correct one?! As I played the switch game with the oil pressure switch, got plenty of spares in diff colours

Thanks danmetallic,
you are a star the one in there is pretty corroded and so is the plug!!!
Do you know of anyone producing a replacement plug as I may as well do this suspect part at the same time.
Thanks
Stan.
