That's for the throttle body heater.
It connects to the manifold heater cable like this.

Hang on, that contradicts page 1 doesn't it?
I thought wires b & c both went to ignition?
Are you saying c goes to the relay, to only work when engine is cold?

A and B both go to 12v switched supply.
C goes to the same supply as Inlet manifold heater circuit.

( As per BigHerb's pics. )

Haynes manual shows it different, but although I queried it at first, everyone else seems to have it this way too.
So I followed the method that works.

You can thank Senor Itchy for that diagram. He posted it to me when I was swapping my Solex out to a Pierburg.

I need to swap some plugs about then!
Good job I've not run it yet or it would have been cutting out.

Hi Sean.

Yes, I had the same confusions - it seems much easier when you can put your hands on it and trace it or when you have done it.
Look at the picture below, and note the beige loom with a thicker red cable, and smaller black one.

Image

These are the two feeds you need. They are all that connects to the carb and inlet manifold. You will notice that inlet manifold + 3 connections on carb = 4 connections....

So, You need to make sure that the red wire from the loom has a `tee` in it, and that it connects to the inlet manifold and throttle body heater.
Those are labeled in Itchy's photo.

The thinner black wire is the 12v switched circuit, and needs to have a `tee` in it that connects to the Fuel cut off valve, and Choke heater.
Those too are labeled in Itchy's picture.
If you still don't follow me and need a video, I can do it for you but not until the end of the week. I leave for work in the dark and don't get home until it's dark too..!!
To be honest, you will probably find that your red and black wires already have those tees in them - effectively making two connections out of one wire each....

Just out of curiosity, did you change the carb or something similar? I'm not sure why your wouldn't already be connected.
I only had to do mine because I changed out the carb for a different variety.

E D I T: I also don't recognise some of the pipework in your pic ( maybe early coolant system? ) Zoom out a bit so we can see your looms before you cut anything.

Thanks Smiffo, I'm also in work now the rest of the week so will follow your advice at the weekend.
A friend's tried to get things working and it's going okay to a fashion, but still quite spluttery on cold start.
Also confused myself by trying to follow later wiring on my early engine.
Thanks again, will post how I get on :ok

Cheeky afternoon off so sorted the wires out finally :rollin

Started from cold with a couple of pumps of the accelerator and the spluttering has all but gone.
Thanks Smiffo. Things are slighty different on my engine but followed your advice and its never been so good. Just need to adjust the idle and timing a smidge.
The wire that came over from the coil to the idle cut off valve I've removed it, the wire seemed newer to so may have been a recent bodge.

On to the next Job....... Trailing arm top hats
