What do you get for the money?

Post by mabelthebus »

Hello everyone, I have a question to ask as to what to expect for £2500 (absolute max £3000).
What condition should we expect for a camper not a van, as such.
First example an Aircooled earlier bus.
Second example a latter water cooled model.
We are not to bothered about it having a cooker and sink fitted, but would obviously want a bed or two and maybe storage/cupboards.
The reason I ask is that I viewed a bus today and was very dissapionted at the condition of the vehicle considering it's price, I wonder if I am being to picky for the money?...

I paid 2k for my 83 1.6d Hitop. It was a little crusty around the windows and seams but honest with no filler. The inside was in fantastic nic. But I did well. I looked at a number in the same price bracket before hand and most were just junk. So now the silly season is all but over you should find a bargain. So look around and dont be affraid to walk away or make silly offers.

Thanks, There is hope then, good point about the silly season, If I found one over the winter I could drive it around a bit to prove it's reliability too.
Hopefully, Mabel the bus will be reality soon.

I had an e-mail on 31st July from Timbertech regarding the red T25 which is for sale @ £2,5000. Some people who are currently on holiday are very interested in this vehicle & it appears that they have first refusal on it when they return home.
This particular T25 is a panel van with windows & 2 sun roofs. The rear is empty awaiting fitting out as a camper to the customers specifications.

Funny thing, a friend of mine is a bit of a petrol head, he said "buy a caravelle and convert it".... might well do that if I can't find a tidy ish one.

I did look at the red one timbertech are selling, if the bus is good that is a damn fine deal.. maybe an option.
Thanks to you both.

Mine was 2500!! Westfalia 1.6D Body fairly good.

I have now spent about 3000 in the last 6 months getting it right.

Look very carefully before you leap!!

I was a plonker, bought first then read these forums later

Don't get a 1.6D, ignore what anyone tells you! lease trust me don't do it!

They are so slow! I mean really slow! Get a really good van for 2500 and convert it. 2500 doesn't really get much if you want a camper.

Hey,

My new 1.6D is great. Your right its is slow but you just chill out and potter. Stop for lots of brews and the worlds great.

Mine is a German import 1983 so the body is in superb nic, not having been exposed to many British winters.

Cost £4000 but its lovely inside and out.

see ya

very happy with my T25 after first trip Clagmeister.

Clagmeister, your not a rail enthusiast..are you????
They refer to the black smoke knackered diesel Loco's spew out under load , as 'clag'.. "I am train driver" (only to pay for guitars, surfboards, t25's Ohhh!!! and the wife, dog and kids) I would rather be pottering around in a nice camper. 8) 8) 8) 8)
I haven't thought of an import really, but if I don't find a tidy UK one, it is an option, pity those Japs didn't catch on, we would be flooded with RHD pampered ones by now, damn shame.
thanks to everyone for the advice, keep it comming, I am learning all the time.

Forgot to say Middlesex motors do Westy Joker imports. Nice but price goes with it.
