Hi all. I have recently bought a t25 1979 westfalia. Both the tailgate and sliding door open from inside but not outside. I haven't had the chance to have a look yet to see how they work as it just won't stop raining. What usually causes this in these vans. I remember my corrado had a problem where it would only open from outside and I bought a kit off eBay to repair that. Are they quite a simple mechanism or are they complicated in any way.
The sliding door is also quite stiff to open and you have to push it out at the back while operating handle to open it. What would likely cause this. I've never had a van so never played with any sliding doors before.
Any tips greatly appreciated.
I have a few other problems I want to sort aswell but I want to concentrate on these first.

Re: Tailgate and sliding door won't open from outside
Hi
Sorry I don't have the answer to your door sticking shut issue but I do have exactly the same issue on my 82 air-cooled in the it won't open unless I pull the inside handle and push the back of the door out from inside the van to get it to open. When either handle is pulled it pops open very slightly but is stuck at the back.
Anyone out there know what has gone wrong please?
Thanks

Hi just an update on my issue with the sliding door sticking shut. I took the door panel off and noticed the cable linking the main lock to the catch on the rear of the door was slack. I then saw that there is an adjuster in this cable just after the main lock and the lock nut on this was undone. I turned the adjuster to take out the slack and it works fine now. I then tightened up the lock nut. Sorted

I wonder if that's what's wrong with mine as well. I am going to have a tlc day Saturday so I may have a quick look at that now.
