Caravelle bed installation

Post by the_fever »

Hi Folks,

I managed to get hold of an original caravelle rock n' roll bed to replace the bench seat but have found out that the back rest pins are in a different location to my bench seat. I have seen from some pictures that some buses have 2 sets of plates either side to locate the pins but mine only has one - does anyone know where I can get hold of a pair of plates

on Vagcat the are listed as item 9b but are not listed with a part number http://www.vagcat.com/epc/cat/vw/T2/1986/65/56/684843/

thanks in advance

Its a case of either drilling out the spot welds and relocating, or make some more.
They were positioned according to original build spec, so were not available as a loose part.

I had to do the same thing with my Caravelle a couple of years back. I did manage to buy a pair of latch posts and they were welded into place (the recess is already there, so you can't go wrong). You have to make sure you get the right size posts - if I remember rightly, the ones that are already there proved to be too short. I might still have the old ones somewhere, but like I said - they weren't long enough.

Cheers guys, should be easy enough to move my existing ones. Just need a free weekend. Have a pair of the longer pins already.
