Another insulation question!

Hi Winchweight

When I did my old van I just used dynamat and then bubble insulation, this time I am using closed cell foam, am I correct in thinking I will not need a plastic barrier?

Up to you really, it might not be on the panels rather the frames, or inside the cavities you can't reach. For the cost and effort of a thin polythene sheet and some double sided 3M foam tape, I'd always do it.

I backed all my panels in the foil insulation, that's also acts a a vapour barrier providing all gaps are covered.

The below worked well for me. Van is quiet(er), a lot of the vibration and running gear noise seems gone and van seems a fair bit warmer too. Most importantly, I know the insulation wont build up moisture and allow it to rust from inside out.

1. Used Dynamat on the flat bits inside panel sections, on top of the rear engine section, in front can floor and inside all doors and tailgate. Need a heatgun and a heavy duty carpet roller to do this well.
2. I sprayed all inside the panel cavities with Bilt Hamber Dynax S50. the stuff makes its way in ALL the tiniest of places and was dripping everywhere from the bottom of the van (which I figured meant it's made it way everywhere). It's really easy to apply to and comes with its own applicator nozzle. 
3. I wrapped good quality Rockwool insulation in some heavy duty rubble bags and filled all panel cavities with it.
4. Fitted foil/bubble wrap insulation stuff over Dynamat in front cab.
5. Fitted Dynaliner (sticky back closed cell foam essentially) to inside of front doors, sliding doors, under seat section, roof and sliding doors. That stuff made, I think, the biggest improvement to road noise. My doors sound like a Bentley's when I close them now and sound solid when you tap the panels from the outside. I.e: My van doesn't sound like a tin can anymore.

Wasn't cheap to put all that in but it's really made a difference. I've tried bitumen roof sheets which is apparently like Dynamat, except it's really not and you do notice the difference if you try to lay both one after the other.

Here's mine. This is the wool type insulation from Megavanmats sealed in a polythene sheet bought off ebay for very cheap and taped up with reflective tape.
Put this in all large spaces and used the bubble foil for smaller spaces. Only had a few holidays since the vans been on the road and been quite warm. Time will tell with regards to temperature and rust avoidance! Hope this helps. Jon.

Aye up chap, I'm ex 28, 230, 60, CFS(H) and 24 Sqns but now I'm afraid I'm Airbus Military with the A400....
I did my old T4 a few years ago and I'm in the process again with two T3 Syncros.

Watch that wool type insulation, you'll be surprised... It may still find moisture from somewhere. That said I've heard that the recycled plastic bottle wool doesn't absorb moisture.
