Another good idea I will be testing along with flux.

OK, so changes since last.
New starter failed. Garage took it off and tested both the new and old on the bench. New one was duff, old one worked once they found a loose fitting (I'm thinking the connection for the battery feed).
So new starter sent back for refund, and old starter back in. Worked for a while and now it doesn't. A couple of false starts, and no start at all.

But different this time. This time I can't hear the solenoid nor the fuel pump. Therefore the trigger wire is top of the list. I do hear the relays in the glove box when I turn the ignition though.

Is there a fuse between those relays and the end at the starter?

Need to entice my GLW outside of the house to allow me to check the voltage at that end when the key is turned...

The relays only cut out extraneous circuits so that all power is available for starting - that is my understanding of their function anyway. Not connected with the starter and solenoid otherwise.

So just found out I've got no power on my trigger wire. Ok, back towards the ignition switch then. Could this have been the issue all along?

Okay so now I am confused. I used a 12 V buzzer at the starter to test whether there was any voltage on the trigger wire. As per my previous post I got nothing when I turn the ignition switch. So I put the buzzer into the back of the ignition switch and hey presto the van fired up for the first time since before Christmas. I pulled the buzzer out and tried to start the van again. It did. And it continued to do so.

There was only one occasion that I try ignition switch and it didn't start. I wiggled the wires at the back of the ignition switch and it started again. And continue to do so for the next few attempts.

The wires in the back of the ignition switch look pristine and I can't imagine that they had worked their way loose all that my wiggling actually made any improvement. But empirical evidence would seem to suggest that. But there is clearly some fault in that ignition trigger wire.

can't be bothered to read back 4 pages but did you change the ignition switch, common fault they become intermittant.

I did not. Just wiggled the wires. But good to know that's a suspect.

In my experience those switches are crap,I've gone Through a few. Best thing is though, if you bought a new one, you can use it without fitting it, to prove your theory. - You can then test the new ignition switch to figure out if it was the problem. E D I T: PM me for more info,as I suspect this is sensitive information! ;-)
