pierburg 2E3

Post by c11babe »

On going problem with my 1.9 petrol, water cooled 1988 camper. Fitted with a pierburg carb, when its running on choke whilst running fast - no problem at all, once off the choke it is very very hesitant, very flat and always needing a lot of throttle to pull away. The carb has been dismantled and I'm told the excellorator booster pipe is blocked - no fuel passing through it at all. Is there a way of safely removing this pipe to clean it out without causing any damage or is this part replaceable - and were from ?
Thank you for any answers, happy camping all.

Compressed air. I found a carb regasket kit transformed mine. You could also check to make sure theres no wear in throttle spindle and/or air leaks at base of carb. Check hoses to and from carb are a tight fit. Check timing. A good moderate carb that performs well when in good fettle.

Whatever you do, dont get talked into fitting an expensive carb replacement when all thats needed is a minor overhaul and clean. With a carb kit (under £30 if you look on ebay hard enough) you'll get a new accelerator pump diaphram and the important seals. They do wear out and a new one should restore the responsiveness.
