This question has probably been asked dozens of times already but search all I can I can't find what I am looking for, I might not be looking in the right place.
I have an Haynes workshop manual for petrol engine t3's and a JK diesel manual for my 1.7 Diesel van the photo in the Haynes of the dip stick is different to mine so that's no good, there is no photo or diagram of the dip stick as far as I can see in the other, I have had a look in wiki and can't find the answer to my question so here goes.
My dipstick has two tiny dots and a U shaped piece above them the oil comes to the top dot but not the U shaped bit I didn't do the oil change it was done at the garage that did the welding and MOT now it might have only been filled to the top dot then again it might have been filled to the top of the U? I will have to ask that at the garage but which is the right place?
The van has done about 400 miles since I put it on the road, if the top of the two dots is the right place it's OK if it's the top of the U shaped area then it's dangerously low.
Worse still if the garage filled it to the top of the U shape and that's the right place then it has burnt a lot of oil.
OK when it's first started there's a bit of smoke but I can't say I've noticed it when I am driving and by the amount of tailgating neither can thay.
Thanks for reading this and any answers given........,....... Please help. I am going poco Loco till I get a gallon of oil tomorrow just in case.
P.s. I hope this is the right place to ask this question, My previous van a 1987 Renault trafic was easier it was either the campervan chat forum or the pre1992 forum. The van was pap the forum easy.

Thank you so much, I might sleep soundly tonight lol.
Then again I might dream about that unlit skip that ripped a big goudge along the side of my recent fitted rear wheel arch (still trying to get used to driving a fwc vehicle)
