12v fault finding

I need to do some fault finding on my 12v system, I've just replaced most of the interior lining and bought new spots and strip light for over the cooker. The problem is my zig unit 10 amp fuse keeps blowing (the bottom 10amp fuse of 3). I have a multimeter and, of course, no power is getting to the units, any ideas on where to start to trace the short?

Start with what you have changed...

Disconnect one thing at a time. Is it just one cable from Zig to lights?

I doubt it is new fault - too much of a coincidence - you have either wired incorrectly, trapped a cable when screwing things back together, connected a faulty item or you are drawing more than 10Amps.

Thanks for that, have blown the same 10amp fuse before so your probably right, will have a look tomorrow

An update on this one, the fault doesn't appear to be with the leisure battery, the same fuse blows as soon as I switch on the 12v with the leisure battery disconnected. Mmmmm will investigate further...

Depends what "zig" you have, some have a "touring" switch , which could mean, depending on the position of that switch, if you have it, that the power is coming from the main battery

The bottom fuse is for the interior lights so you've got a short to earth. You might have put a screw through a positive wire and trapped it against the van's body. Just check for continuity between the positive feeds and the van's body with everything switched off. If you get a 0 ohms reading on a positive wire you've found the short.

My zig unit is a cf8, will check the touring switch position, it's def the bottom fuse that is blowing and yes the lights are not working. I'm going to check the wiring with my mutineer, thanks for the tips
