In a moment of madness i went and bought a Subaru legacy outback with a flat 6 3.0 litre engine to transplant into my t25. Thought id keep a thread going of my attempts to do the conversion.
Heres some pictures of the car and engine
Now to try and get the engine and loom out
So heres the first question of many ...
Is it best to put it on axle stands or ramps to get the engine out?

Which conversion kit do you plan to use, and how mechanically minded are you?
( Have you tried anything like this before? )
I am interested in doing this conversion myself one-day, although prob not H6.
How set up are you for it?
( Do you have a garage to work on the van in? )
Sorry I can't help with the question you asked.

Hi, the H6 is a lovely engine, I hope your project goes well.
For removal, the engine is lifted out after supporting the front of the gearbox. IIRC the rad needs to be shifted to allow the engine to be pulled forward off the gearbox. You should check if yours has the pull-to-release clutch as used on the turbos, if so you'll need to disengage the bearing off the back of the pressure plate before pulling the engine off.
E D I T. Soz as you have an auto ignore the last bit.

plan to use rjes bellhousing and mount - richard has been really helpful already and suggests i use a pull to release clutch and turbo bellhousing to handle the torque
as its an automatic i need to source a starter motor and flywheel from a manual , probably from a 5 speed impreza wrx turbo (254mm pcd)
did toy with the subaru gears reverse ring and pinion with a subaru gearbox but decided i had given myself enough to do with this project having done nothing like this before.
plan to build it all up in my shed with gearbox and bellhousing all bolted up and check it runs before wheeling it to the van and putting in.
as to how mechanical i am! i do all the servicing / work on my van myself but have never pulled an engine or gearbox. Installed power steering and new trailing arms / brakes etc but nothing this big. Must admit i'm a bit scared at the moment !
need to source an engine hoist to get it out - anyone got any recommendations?

Regarding an engine crane, I got one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00HUR6XSY?vs=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to lift the engine and gearbox in my kitcar, which is a heavy cast iron straight six. Managed it no problem but you want a good surface to move it on. Quality seems pretty good for the price although delivery was not the quickest.

That looks pretty good for the money - will those legs fit underneath if up on ramps? or will i have to remove wheels and put on axle stands further back?

Shouldn't be a problem with ramps, you need a clear width of 100cm for the crane.

PS. Thinking about it as you've got the rest of the car to be shot-of you may prefer to drop the trans and engine out in 1 piece. More to un-do obviously. So lower the lump onto your chosen dolly/sled then re-task hoist to lift up front of car ?
PPS. I've not checked the manual the whole front comes off doesn't it ? Duh.
