All done now.
Massive improvement over the old set-up.
Third still isn't perfect, it doesn't feel as smooth as the other gears, but it is as close as I can get it and no grinding every other shift either.
For anyone attempting this, the slightest rotational amount at the splines will make a huge difference at shift housing end, and as such gearbox end.
You really do have to make sure that the fork on the gearstick lines up dead-centre over the aluminium blocks, and that the spring resistance in the gearbox starts just as the indent mechanism parts touch the shift housing wall. A slight error there causes all sorts of weird and wonderful symptoms...
Thanks all for your input.
It's been ...... Emotional....

Now I just have to find the time and motivation to change out my SOlex for the Pierberg carb..!!
