quick dash cam q
I have a simple cam but got rear ended recently in the car ( write off lots of my time wasted), no arguments but I now want a dual camera one incase somebody rear ends me and claims I pulled infront of them too close.
I'm wondering do they recored both views into one video or record two different vids?
thinking of this

I haven't got this version but my dual camera one records two separate files. One thing to check is the cable for the secondary camera is long enough to run under/through the van to the rear. Mine isn't is waiting for me to bodge up an extension.

Thanks, it's for the car but may get one for the van too.
I assume 2 vids uses double memory so need to get a bigger card

I have just an independent one for the rear. I can also use a wireless transmitter to a front monitor so I can see the trailer when it is attached.

Re: quick dash cam q
Covkid, looked at techmoan but he only has one recent review of a dual camera ( which wasn't good) I can find , that recored 2 files, I supose they all do that.
Bigherb, thought of 2 cameras but I only have one ciggy socket in the car and adapters are seldom reliable or neat.
Unless anybody has reccomendations I'll get the one I listed next week and report back.
thanks
Paul

Re: quick dash cam q
I got this one off Amazon about 3 years ago and its still going strong:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/eplus-DualCam-D ... T47DZBKRSA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Has front and rear cam with GPS, bump detection etc.
The rear cam may be less use in the front windscreen of the van with smaller rear view than a car bit it is enough to show an incident is someone else's fault, as front and rear video appears side by side and in sync in the final video. You can also have sound but I turn it off .
The only niggles are processing the videos require the inbuilt software in the camera and night vision is pretty poor as with a lot of these cams, but for the price its not bad.
Comes on automatically with ignition and records on a loop so you don't need a huge memory card to be effective.

Re: quick dash cam q
Thanks greasemonkey, I was really after any feedback about how vids were stored.
As mentioned on technmoan review you would have thought the software would merge the two vids ( I have seen footage but I guess it is post processed)
Thinking about it the format would be wrong if you did that or part of the picture would be obscured, so I guess two vids it is.

Deffo want the cam in the rear window as a tailgater deterrant

Re: quick dash cam q
The one I have makes just one video with the two views side by side. It's done in the camera and all you do is E D I T the footage to the section you want.
Its recorded in 2 minute chunks so easy to pick out 'incidents' if needed.
The two camera/two videos is more complete, but a lot more hassle too.

Re: quick dash cam q
This arrived today, I hadn't noticed the rear cam was 720p, it's not good enough, also rear cam really needs an adjustable suction mount like the front, it's going back.
I think unless you want to pay top money a second independent camera in the rear is the way as suggested by bigherb

Re: quick dash cam q
suction mount keeps falling off rear window, must be the heater window element, perhaps why rear cams are usually stick on with 3m tape jobbies
