Had an intermittent sudden death of camper last year and changed coil leads, module etc. and fitted new fuel pump. Sudden death again a few months later turned out to be new coil broken so fitted Bosch coil rather than whatever one I had picked up at GSF.
I think that problem was original coil packing up when it got hot.
Today sudden death again, fuel pump dead. Fitted it May 2014 so 20 months old and not many miles. Picked up another and fitted so up & running again but same make (Topran) as previous replacement so I am now a bit nervous about it. Is there a better make which will be expected to give me 25 years service rather than 20 months?

Take scan back through this thread.
Itchyfeet did advise me not to go cheap. Unfortunately I had already ordered my pump ( You guessed it, the cheap one... )
I can't give personal experience, but if I could go back I would opt for the more expensive version.
( I always listen to the men that have more experience - with these vans it will save you time and money. )
If you are feeling brave, you could always go electric as per CovKids advice.
Did you change the fuel push rod at the same time?
They are only £3, so isn't worth leaving out IMO if you already have the pump off.

Mind you, any pump can fail I suppose - including electric. Even I carry a spare just in case 
Good quality mech pump important. None are as good as the earlier ones (60s/70s) that you could get overhaul kits for though. They were really well made.

Thanks both. I did not change the push-rod this time, I had forgotten its existence until I took the dead pump off, but the one in there is only 20 months old.
I did read all the way through thread but did not come to any conclusion about which was the most reliable route to go.
The 2 pumps that I have bought were Topran, cost almost £25 so I guess that they are cheap ones.
Maybe I will get another mechanical one & keep it in the camper with spare coil etc and see how long this one lasts.
I see that Brickwerks keep a Pierburg one so maybe that is the way to go and put my current one into spares box
