Leaking windscreen seal and repair

Post by Jawin89 »

I have read a lot of information on here about leaking windscreen seals and the horrors that can be found because of this. I have had an ongoing leak for a while so decided to bite the bullet and replace the seal with a nice new OE one. There was no sign of any issues until i removed the old seal and found some rust bubbling through under the seal. After some sanding and poking i ended up with this :(

Only option was to cut it out and repair so wiper spindle removed out of the way and cut it back to this.

I pushed a very wet old towel behind the dashboard to protect the plastic air blower pipe from falling sparks and you can just see this in the image.

I spent some time cutting out and bending a new piece and ended up with this.

Its not perfect but fits OK. This was then welded through the spots first to allow for final positioning and then the rest welded up. Again not perfect but i was happy.

Sanded back with a flap disc on the grinder

Epoxy primer applied and i was happy with the repair

All that is left now is to flat back, apply the top coat and fit the new seal. Hopefully no more puddles on the van floor :D

Looks good :ok
Don't forget to put some sort of rust prevention product to the underside or you'll have wet feet again

Sorry, UC used not UB. I have some S50 but as the UC is clear i thought that would be better than the brown colour.
