Battery price - too good to be true?

It seems remarkably cheaper than anywhere else, possibly a copy? Would like to buy an S5 but unsure as to weather or not from this company.

Scrub that, just found carparts4less sell the same thing for about £9 more. Willing to pay the extra for peace of mind.

That's what I've just done. Ecp can't match it so I'll be getting it via cp4l. My battery has been duff for the last 2 years but keeps on hanging in there, may as well replace it before it lets me down. Can't rush these decisions

A lot of money for a Type 100, still I agree the Bosch S5 is quality......however I would certainly consider the Varta equivelent, every bit as good IMO.

It is probably worth commenting on your alternators 'regulator brush pack' at this point. The original Bosch/Beru parts were set with a tolerance of 13.9 - 14.2volts, which was perfectly fine for lead/acid batteries of that era. However, newer chemistries like the one used in the S5 Bosch, are designed to be charged at a slightly higher voltage. Indeed, quite a few of replacement regulator bush packs come with a higher pre-set closer to 14.5 volts.
What does all this mean?...in practice, if the charge voltage is on the low side the battery may rarely reach fully charged state.

I wasn't doubting delivery, more the worry of a counterfeit. They are cheaper by several pounds which caused me to worry and their telephone manner. I asked which company I was speaking to and they asked why I wanted to know!!! Chap later said it was because they operate several internet based companies from the same phone line. Probably legit but it didn't feel right at the time.

Looks like I need to order a new regulator then, simple enough task to fit. Now, normally I don't hesitate to put an order in at BW for a load of parts to justify postage, however, not in need of anything else so my question is; where else is a trusted place to purchase a regulator from?

There has been a lot of talk on here over the last year about voltage drop on the long run between the alternator and battery. With that in mind I would just say check yours out to ensure a minimum 14 volts (1500-2000rpm) at the starter battery terminals and again at the alternator B+ post. If you are seeing 14.2 - 14.5 volts directly from the alternator there is little point in changing the regulator as it is probably a new type replacement anyway.
Having said this they are under £15 and generally a good spare to carry around with you anyway.

Spot on Martin. I now get 14.07 at starter battery but only after upgrading regulator to 14.5V one AND replacing main cables (see WIKI). A further boost by supplying headlights power by big fat cable (also in WIKI) means I'm good to go. There are no shortcuts as far as I can see - which is now a long way in the dark

Now working on gas supply as well as a major rethink on rear lights....

There's no saying the one I've just received from carparts4less is any more genuine - how would I know until it began to fail further down the line? Just hedging my bets. You're a tradesman aren't you Lloyd? As you probably know, it pays not to be the cheapest as people begin to worry about quality/reliability - it's a minefield out there!
