help me.

Post by lost in Denmark »

I love the 88 syncro front and back diff locks and 1.6 td jx. I need an engine and lots of little stuff fixed. I want a bit more power but the 1.6 is probably just fine. I really want a 5 speed trans and not a situation where u use low gear as 5th and hope u can find 5th when u need it. so I suppose that is a 6 speed trans. Help I just want some one to say what isn what I know nnothing.

Apologies if the following misunderstands your question.

Syncro will always be 4 speed gearbox + crawler gear + reverse. The 4WD prevents a 5 speed box. You can only get a true 5 speed gearbox with a 2WD.

Provided it has been looked after or properly serviced the 1.6TD JX engine can be a decent reliable runner, but it is limited in its top end speed.

If you're looking for a bit more top end speed then the cheapest way is to try a larger wheel + tyre setup. You'll want to limit the increase in diameter to no more than 5% more than standard tyre size of 185R14 to avoid taxing your engine too much on hills.

After that you can dabble in some tuning mods to get a bit more - an intercooler, modified fuel injection pump, alternative head gasket, etc.

If that's still not enough then you're probably talking a TDi engine upgrade and gearbox modifications.

Good luck.
