steering column

got a 87 1.9 waterboxer the steering column has lots of play at the bottom.the garage has changed the two grommits and told me the couplings look fine.At the bottom of the tubing on the column there is a spring the garage thinks this should be up inside the tubing ? has anyone got a picture of a steering column

are the 3 couplings the same on all T25s
