Which engine and Carb you have - Solex to Pierburg swap

ok so black ignition 12V wire connects to 1 & 3
manufold heater is obvious, it's the wire that hangs out of the manufold under carb, it's red in loom and pinky colour from heater, see if it has another connection, if not you need to cut into it for 2
This heater circuit is 12v cold with ignition on but switched off hot, it's switched by relay in black box and blue switch in thermostat housing.

will take some pics at weekend if you still need, it's cold,dark, wet and I have been working since Sunday.

did you measure the thermostat housing pipe spigot diameter?

Yes - sorry - I did measure them.

Pierburg outlet port is approx 13mm, and the Thermo housing port ( harder to measure as a bit awkward to get into it with the hose on ) is about 20mm approx.
I will get exact if I need to.

No that's not right.
the red wire connects to the relay No.1 in the junction box along with the carb heater and choke heater
There's small loom for this.

We also have to use a language that we think you understand, the carb to pierburg wiring pic tells me I have assumed you know more about electricals than I thought
They do connect togeter but the also both need to connect to the red in the loom.

Yes, that's exactly right. Never done any work at all on vehicles ever. Electrical wise similarly only basic things.
The work I did on the van when I first bought it was via the WIKI and input from here.
It will be the terms and names that catch me out, but once I catch up it will be all good.

Assume I know nothing. You won't catch me being offended if you make it too simplistic.

Not sure what pics you need

here is one of the electrics, the red ( relay controlled 12V on when cold) and black (ignition 12V) come from the loom on the lhs in a grey/brown sleeve, the black can be seen looping to both the cut off valve and choke heater
The red can be seen connecting to the manufold heater and the part load duct heater, the bit of black sleeve is because the wire insulation is damaged
(ignore my fuel pipe it goes from pump via a cut off valve for LPG)

this shows the standard reducing rubber pipe drops down to about 12mm same as the choke pipe

You can either buy the 80 quid pipe or you can get the reducer, a piece of straight pipe and a joiner, depends on your budget and skills.

Update...

I have ordered the DG styled thermostat housing ( it is different Itchy, has 1x less port as per our discussion, DF definitely looks like the 2.1 version you have ) and I ordered the coolant pipe with extra T that goes from Pierburg to header tank.
Went with new thermostat as I wondered 'why not', and then ordered the yellow thermostat seal you linked to me too.

I feel like I have half of the Brickwerks warehouse in my garage at the moment, with the 5sp bits in there too..!!

I'm looking at starting this soon, now that the gear linkage project has concluded.

Had a look and a ponder today, then had a coffee, then had ponder, vacuumed the house, had a look, had a ponder etc etc
Basically I got a bit put off by the look of the existing thermostat screws / bolts.

They look minging.

Now I don't want to cause damage with my untrained hands, so was wondering what the opinions are of others here.
Clearly you won't know the extent of my ability or the extent of the condition of the bolts, but is this a job best left for a garage?

If I snap them off, I will be in dire straights as I couldn't weld a nut on the end or anything.

Assuming I took it to a garage, are we looking at an hours work, two hours, or three?
While it is there, I could get them to fit the new inlet manifold and carb too.

Any past experience shared will be appreciated.

Oh lastly, I only had coolant changed last year, so want to save it.
Where is the best point to drain it from, do I need to drain it all, and if so, how much does the van hold?
( I was thinking maybe drain at one of the low pipes that joins to the plastic / metal ones that go to the front of the van. )

It's a late cooling system - not sure if coolant volume differs from older system, so thought I would throw that bit in there.
